Scholars celebrated their last full month of school with the ABC Countdown to Summer, which started on May 2nd. We also started off the month on a positive note with Tim Hannig during the ProKids assembly on May 8th. Tim Hannig’s Pro-Kids Show connects with kids through his award-winning magic, comedy, music, puppets & audience involvement.
Whittier scholars showed off their learning and growth in the middle of May by taking the NWEA MAP math and ELA assessments. MAP provides teachers with accurate, actionable evidence to help inform instructional strategies regardless of how far students are above or below grade level. Students celebrated all of their progress and are encouraged to continue practicing skills through the summer.
As 2nd graders are preparing for the transition from Whittier to Riley, they had an opportunity to tour and visit their future school building. Riley was one of the district 87 buildings that were fully remodeled during the summer/fall of 2023.
As our Whittier Mustangs begin their summer break, we would like to remind families to continue reading for 30 minutes each day over the summer. Reading daily accelerates student progress and allows students to build their language skills and vocabulary.
